Transportation Funding Secured for SOAR Students Attending Title I Schools

VIERA—Brevard Public Schools has identified funds that can be used to provide transportation for students attending the Summer Opportunities for Acceleration and Remediation (SOAR) program at Title I schools this summer. The major funding source for this will come from a Title I School Improvement Initiative grant.

“If we had not been able to provide transportation at our highest poverty schools, our neediest students might not have been able to benefit from this program,” said Superintendent Dr. Richard A. DiPatri. “We are pleased that, even in these difficult budget circumstances, we can offer this transportation service to some students.”

Last spring, Brevard received $99,350 for a Title I School Improvement Initiative, according to Teresa Wright, director of Early Childhood Education and Title I. Currently, there is $60,800 remaining in the grant.

“We were notified recently that Brevard will receive an additional $20,000 for the same grant, making the balance for this project $80,800,” Wright said. “These funds will provide the financial means necessary to offer transportation for SOAR students at Title I schools.”

Schools across Brevard will provide limited SOAR offerings this summer, due to budget cuts. For more information, contact your child’s school.
