BPS Announces Informational Television Series on SSNP
VIERA— Brevard Public Schools (BPS) will air a special seven-part Superintendent’s Forum series on BPS-TV, Bright House Cable channel 198, to assist parents with understanding the Secondary Schools of National Prominence (SSNP) initiative and its effects on their student’s secondary school experience. Beginning May 4 and continuing the next seven weeks, topics in this seven-part series include the Career and Technical Education Programs of Study, the requirements for incoming seventh-grade students, the SSNP guidance component, the Cambridge Programs, Collegiate High Schools, and the International Baccalaureate Programs in Brevard. There will also be a show dedicated to the 19 different academies offered across BPS secondary schools. SSNP, launched in 2005, is considered one of the most important initiatives in the district to impact student achievement in the next 10 years. SSNP is a significant change at the secondary level that enhances the rigor, relevance, and relationships in the secondary school experience. Increased opportunities for credits, rigorous course requirements, individualized programs of study, and personalized learning communities all support Brevard’s goal that every student graduate from high school prepared to enter and be successful in the workplace, in further career education, or in postsecondary degree opportunities. Parents are encouraged to tune into Bright House Cable channel 198, or channel 30.3 with a digital antenna, during the following dates and times to learn about the different components of SSNP.
