BPS Names Outstanding Assistant Principals of 2008

VIERA—Superintendent Dr. Richard A. DiPatri recently announced this year’s recipients of the Outstanding Assistant Principal Award.  Three administrators have been recognized: Lori Migliore, assistant principal at Palm Bay Elementary, Mollie Vega, assistant principal at Stone Middle School, and Stephanie Soliven, assistant principal at Cocoa High School. These three assistant principals will be recognized at the May 27 Brevard County School Board Meeting.

“These individuals work tirelessly to motivate and insure the success of our students,” DiPatri said.  “We appreciate their leadership in helping BPS achieve its goals.”

Lori Migliore began her teaching career in LaGrange, Ind., in 1993 and started teaching kindergarten in Brevard County at Discovery Elementary School in 1995. She taught third grade, fourth grade and kindergarten at Harbor City Elementary beginning in 1999.  Migliore was the academic specialist at Palm Bay Elementary in 2003 and was appointed as the assistant principal in 2005.

Mollie Vega has nine years with Brevard Public Schools and has worked as the assistant principal at Stone Middle School since 2006.  Before coming to Stone Middle School, Vega taught math at Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School. She became the assistant principal at Southwest Middle School in 2002 and transferred to Merritt Island High in 2004.

Stephanie Soliven began teaching in Brevard County at Southwest Middle School in 1994 and was appointed as the assistant principal there in 2000.  She remained at Southwest until 2006 when she transferred to Cocoa High School. Soliven holds a bachelor’s degree in social studies education, a master’s degree in educational leadership and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Central Florida.  In addition, Soliven has been selected to represent the district at the state level for this award.

This prestigious award honors assistant principals who have demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills to increase student performance, promote safe learning environments, and establish partnerships with parents and community members. The Florida Department of Education, in partnership with the Florida Association of School Administrators, coordinates the awards.

Each district is allowed to nominate one assistant principal from its elementary, middle and high schools to represent the district at the state level.  The assistant principal will be honored by the state this fall.
