BPS Names Outstanding Principals of 2008
VIERA—Superintendent Dr. Richard A. DiPatri recently announced this year’s recipients of the Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership. Three administrators have been recognized: Saturn Elementary Principal Michael Miller, Stone Middle School Principal Andrew Johnson, and Rockledge High School Principal Anthony Hines. These three principals will be recognized at the May 27 Brevard County School Board Meeting. “These principals exemplify strong leadership in our schools,” DiPatri said. “They understand the vision of Brevard Public Schools and do everything in their power to help make that vision a reality.” Anthony Hines has been with the district since 1985 and began teaching American history and government at Rockledge High School in 1986. Hines became the assistant principal at RHS in 1996 and accepted the position of principal in 1999. He graduated with a master’s degree in History Education from Morehead State University in Kentucky and began his teaching career in Dayton, Ohio in 1976. Andrew Johnson was appointed principal of Stone Middle School on June 1, 2005. Now in his 16th year as an educator, Johnson began his teaching career at McNair Magnet Middle School in 1992 and in 1999 became the assistant principal at Rockledge High School and then at McNair Magnet Middle in 2001. He holds a master’s degree in management from Webster University in St. Louis, Mo. Michael Miller has served as principal of Saturn Elementary since 1999. He holds a bachelor’s of social work and a master’s degree in special education. Miller has 28 years of educational experience, 27 of those years in Brevard County starting at University Park Elementary as an EMH teacher. He transferred to Audubon Elementary in 1985 and became the assistant principal at Cambridge Elementary in 1994. Miller has been selected to represent the district at the state level for this award. The Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership honors principals for their contributions to their schools and communities. It also recognizes their efforts to increase student performance, promote safe learning environments and establish partnerships with parents and community members. Each district is allowed to nominate one principal from its elementary, middle and high schools to represent the district at the state level. The principal will be honored by the state this fall. -BPS- |
