BPS Readies Summer Food Service Program

VIERA—Brevard Public Schools will participate in the Summer Food Service Program during the months of June, July and August. Nutritionally balanced meals will be provided to all children regardless of race, color, sex, disability, age, or national origin during summer vacation when school breakfasts and lunches are not available. All children 18 years old and younger, living in the area of an open site, are eligible for meals at no charge and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. The programs are only approved for geographical areas of need where 50 percent or more of the children qualify for free and reduced price meals during the school year.

Funding for this breakfast and lunch food service program is provided by the federal government through the USDA. Brevard Public Schools receives federal reimbursement for meals served at these sites.

Summer feeding sites that are located at schools provide meals to all children 18 years and younger in the immediate vicinity in addition to those enrolled in the Summer Opportunities for Acceleration and Remediation (SOAR) program.  There is no registration required to participate in the summer meal program at participating sites. A list of the participating Summer Food Service Program sites is attached.
