Welcome to the Rockledge High School Cambridge Program

-
What is the Cambridge AICE program?
- The Cambridge AICE (Advanced International Certificate of Education) program is an advanced academic program offered solely through Cambridge Assessment International Education, a division of the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England -- an institution that consistently ranks as one of the top five academic universities in the world.
- AICE provides a flexible curriculum with a global focus that is offered worldwide to more than 8 million candidates at schools and colleges in over 160 countries. For over 170 years, the prestigious University of Cambridge has been setting worldwide curriculum standards through their examinations.
- Like AP and IB, Cambridge AICE courses - also known as the British AS and A Level courses - allow students to study college-level material on the Rockledge High campus.
- Students in the program study curriculum designed by Cambridge Assessment for one academic year. At the end of that year, students take an examination based on the curriculum they studied. These examinations are designed by Cambridge Assessment to provide students with an opportunity to showcase their learning in that subject. The examinations are then graded by examiners from Cambridge Assessment in England. Students who earn a passing score on the examination earn college credit.
-
Why are AICE Courses Important?
- Cambridge AICE courses prepare students for life, helping them develop an informed curiosity and a lasting passion for learning.
- Students in AICE courses become confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged as they discover new abilities and investigate the wider world around them. The rigor of the classes as well as the numerous opportunities for hands-on learning get students ready to tackle the demands of tomorrow’s world. Students develop the skills they need to achieve at school, at the university-level, and in their chosen careers.
- Cambridge AICE courses develop learners’ knowledge, understanding and skills in:
- In-depth subject content
- Independent thinking
- Applying knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations
- Handling and evaluating different types of information source
- Thinking logically and presenting ordered and coherent arguments
- Making judgements, recommendations and decisions
- Presenting reasoned explanations, understanding implications and communicating them logically and clearly
- Working and communicating in English.
- The Florida Legislature has identified Cambridge AICE as a graduation option and an acceleration mechanism through which students can be awarded up to 45 hours of college credit at all public universities and colleges in Florida.
- A passing score on a Cambridge AICE exam can earn students at least 3 college credits at all Florida public universities and colleges, as well as credits at universities and colleges around the country.
-
What is the AICE Diploma and Why is it Important?
- The Cambridge AICE Diploma is an international high school diploma that offers students the opportunity to master a broad range of skills critical for success at the university level and in their chosen career field.
- Students who are working to earn their AICE Diploma will take AICE Global Perspectives Research in addition to subjects drawn from three curriculum areas: mathematics and science, languages, and arts and humanities. To earn the Cambridge AICE Diploma, students must earn at least seven credits by passing AS or A Level examinations.
- Students who earn the AICE Diploma can qualify for the highest level of the Bright Futures Scholarship, the Florida Academic Scholars (with the completion of the required number of community service hours) and are not required to meet the minimum GPA and SAT/ACT testing scores.
-
Why Should Students Enroll in AICE Courses?
- The Cambridge AICE program at Rockledge High School offers students one of the most demanding and rigorous college preparatory programs in the world.
- Students in the program can work towards the distinguished and internationally recognized AICE Diploma. Students also have the option of taking AICE courses and their subsequent exams in order to earn college credits without applying for the AICE diploma. Regardless of the option chosen, enrollment in these rigorous courses will benefit RHS students in the college application process.
- In addition, an AICE Diploma is an automatic qualifier for the highest level of the Bright Futures Scholarship (with the completion of the required community service hours). With the minimum SAT score requirement for the standard route to earning the highest level of the Bright Futures scholarship requiring students to earn a 1330, the AICE Diploma provides a route that will challenge students academically and prepare them for college while still allowing them the opportunity to earn the highest level of the Bright Futures Scholarship. The highest level of the Bright Futures Scholarship (The Florida Academic Scholar Award) will pay for the full cost of tuition and applicable fees plus $300 each semester to help cover additional expenses.
