Bayside High School – Career and Tech Education Courses
If you are zoned for Bayside High School and wish to take classes in a particular program, be sure to sign up for it with your guidance counselor. No application necessary. No fee required.
If you are not zoned for Bayside, you will have to apply through the BPS website: School_of_Choice_new/Secondary_Open_Enrollment under the ‘New and Renewal EPO and EPO Applications for Secondary Schools’ with a deadline of early Spring. There is a $30 nonrefundable fee for each application.

Culinary Arts
Culinary Arts is a true-to-life-based program that is designed to introduce the basic fundamentals, discipline and skills required for a successful career in the foodservice industry. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in the preparation of food. Included are basic principles and techniques of food preparation, use of recipes, use and care of equipment.
Industry Certification: ServSafe®, NRFSP Food Safety Manager Test
The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment in the hospitality, tourism or restaurant industry.

Technical Design (Drafting)
This course provides students with fundamental knowledge and skills of architectural drawing using Autodesk Revit software, a three dimensional parametric modeling application. Along with acquiring language arts and mathematics knowledge and skills, students will be able to prepare multi-view drawings, prepare sectional views, prepare auxiliary drawings, apply basic dimensioning and describe the importance of professional ethics and legal responsibilities.
Industry Certification: AutoDesk, AutoCAD, Revit and Inventor, Fusion 360
The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment in the architectural and engineering fields, creating drawings that provide the technical specifications of buildings.

Engineering Technology
This program provides students with a foundation of knowledge and technical experience in the study of engineering and prepares students for postsecondary engineering programs by developing an in-depth mastery of associated mathematics, science, and technology knowledge and skills with opportunities to further their mastery of engineering-related design solutions to real world problems.

The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment in mechanical or civil engineering fields.

Television Productions
This program offers students an opportunity to learn all aspects of television studio activities including scripts, lighting, filming and directing, field production, communication skills, leadership skills, human relations and employability skills, safe and efficient work practices. Studio activities and performing on camera are an integral part of this program. Instruction includes camera principles, video editing, lighting methods, control room operation, station operation, on camera performance and script writing.
Industry Certification: Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects
The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment in the Television or Film Industry as writers, camera operators, talent, editors or production crew.

Patient Care Assisting (PCA) (CNA)
This program offers rigorous content, relevant technical knowledge, and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in medical and health care fields. PCA program students passing with a C or higher will take the FL Board of Nursing exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. These courses are only offered to 10th through 12th graders.

The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment in hospitals or Nursing Homes, or Home Health Care.

Health and Wellness
Health Science Anatomy & Physiology
This course is part of the Secondary Health Core, consisting of an overview of the human body, both structurally and functionally, with emphasis on the pathophysiology and transmission of disease. Medical terminology is an integral part of the course.
Health Science Foundations
This course is part of the Secondary Health Core designed to provide the student with in depth knowledge of the health care system and associated occupations. Emphasis is placed on communication and interpersonal skills, use of technology, ethics and the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills. Students may shadow professionals throughout the course.
Exercise Science
This course prepares students to be employed as Personal Trainers. Content includes, but not limited to, identifying and practicing within the appropriate scope of practice for a personal trainer, developing and implementing exercise programs for apparently healthy individuals or those who have medical clearance to exercise, proficiency in the appropriate fitness equipment used, as well as a foundation in the musculo-skeletal system of the body.

The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment in the Health Care field as front office management. As well as introduce them to Personal Training and possible careers in sports medicine.

CNC Machining Tech
Students gain an understanding of technology and the concept of Design for Manufacturing, workplace safety and organization, communication skills, and basic machine operation. Upon completion of this course sequence and a passing score on the certification exam, students will earn 15 hours at EFSC in any engineering technology degree.

Digital Design
Digital Design is a 3-4 year-long, project-based curriculum program that develops key digital communication skills such as design, project management, research and communication, photography, graphic design, illustration, and page layout skills using Adobe tools. Digital Design is graphic design career technical education at Bayside. Each student project builds on lessons learned previously. Classes have defined learning targets, step-by-step instructions, assessment rubrics, and details on alignment to the Adobe Certified Associate exams and FLDOE course frameworks.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Graphic Design - Experiment using digital tools such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop to express color theory, typography, elements/principles of design, illustration, page layout, logo design, and product branding.
Photography - Improve photographic techniques and composition by using golden ratio, framing, unusual views, spacing, and depth of field to increase the expressiveness of digital pictures. Apply picture composition rules while taking photos to find the most harmonious way of arranging objects in digital pictures. Learn photo editing techniques using Adobe Photoshop.
Digital Animation - Storyboard and design for video through digital animation. Pitch and refine scripts, research character backgrounds and the visual design of the story, and create a design booklet, concept drawings, storyboards, and 2D and 3D animatics. Software packages include basic introductions to Adobe Animate for rich media communication, Adobe Dimension for 3D content creation, and Adobe After Effects.
Web Design - Create professional portfolios using web skills to design digital resumes and display graphic design projects. Web design develops key digital communications skills; design, communication, project management, and web technology using Adobe Dreamweaver.
Media Arts - Sample various technologies including sound and video using Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Spark Video, and others to enhance projects.

Journalism (Yearbook Staff)
This course is designed to develop students’ skills in yearbook production by providing experiences in selected aspects of yearbook production. Students learn the principals of yearbook production and develop skills that include writing copy, captions and headlines; digital photography; desktop publishing and using appropriate technology tools for media production.

Navy Jr ROTC
The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program prepares high school students for leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens. In addition to the core syllabus, cadets will participate in Community Service, Leadership Training, Drill, and Physical Training, and other extra-curricular activities. All these activities are tools to develop leadership, followership, and discipline.
The purpose of this program is to prepare students for the opportunity to join the military after high school.
