Good Evening Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,

We had a GREAT last full week of school here at DeLaura!  I wanted to first congratulate our orchestra and chorus students for two amazing music concerts over these last two weeks.  They always put on an amazing show and their hard work always pays off in the end.  Also, I wanted thank all of our teachers and parents who volunteered to chaperone Gradventure 2022.  We took close to 300 8th graders to Orlando to visit two theme parks and arrived back on campus at 2:00am.  Their dedication to ensure a safe and fun trip for our kids is much appreciated!  There is no way we could have accomplished it without our parent’s support!

Next week is exam week and the exam schedule is in the attached “DeLaura Details” newsletter.  On Tuesday – Thursday, students are NOT allowed to bring large backpacks to school.  They will only be attending two classes each day to take their exams and won’t need all of their school materials.  Small drawstring bags, lunchboxes and/or small purses are ok for students bring.  This weekend is a great time to check-in with your students and see how they are feeling about exams next week.   They should be working on their study guides and reviewing their materials from this semester.

Have a great weekend and go Scotties!

Good Evening Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,

We had a BUSY week filled with state testing, a band concert and an amazing teacher/staff appreciation week!  A big THANK YOU to our PTO who provided a whole week’s worth of awesome food, gifts and treats.  Events and treats during this week included: A coffee truck, gift cards, catered lunch, room service, an ice cream truck, gift baskets and TONS more.  We are so lucky to have such a great group of parents, community members and business partners to support our staff.

For our 8th graders going to gradventure, an E-mail went out earlier this week to all parents with some preliminary details and an itinerary for the trip.  Additional information well be sent out early next week as we lead up to Gradventure happening on Friday, May 13th.  Everyone is so excited for this event and glad we are able to give our 8th graders a fun send-off as they head to high school in a few short months.

Lastly, we have both the civics EOC ( 7th graders) and Science EOC (8th Graders) happening on Thursday, May 12th. Please ensure that your child arrives to school on time and is able to stay for the entire morning and finish the test.  We will be conducting makeup tests as well next week for FSA reading and FSA math.  Thank you to everyone who made this week’s FSA testing a success.  Please see attached for the “DeLaura Details” newsletter which has additional information and other “end of year” dates as well.

Have a great weekend and go Scotties!

Good Evening Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,

We have a BUSY next few weeks ahead of us and only 18 school days left until the end of the year!    Please see below for important information about a few upcoming activities:

    • FSA Testing - We will have FSA Reading and FSA Math testing from May 3rd – May 6th.  Please look at the attached DeLaura Details for complete bell schedules for those days.  If possible, have your student bring headphones (3.5mm Aux type) to school so they can use their personal headphones on the test. Please encourage your student to get plenty of rest the night before the exams and to eat a healthy breakfast.
    • Math Tournament – Ms. Fromson held a school-wide math tournament recently and it was a fun event for our students!   Winners included:
      • Algebra Honors: L. Rodgers, A. Modello, C. Chapman , A. Skinner
      • Algebra – M. Merced, E. Patterson, A. Parker
      • 7th Grade Math – B. Chen, G. Grascia, F. Vargas
      • Geometry – A. Sun, J. Lu, L. Gallego
    • Gradventure on May 13th  – Information will be coming in the next week relating to 8th Grade Gradventure which will include a full itinerary, information for our chaperones, Universal’s Rules list and other important details.  Just a reminder, students must meet behavior expectations ( No out of school suspensions and no more than two In-school suspensions) through the day of the event.  If you emailed Mr. LeBrun about being on the chaperone list, please keep an eye out in your E-mails for information next week.   The event runs from 2:00pm on May 13th – 1:00am on May 14th, so get your rest leading up to the event!

Over the next few weeks, we will have our Spring music concerts in the SHS theatre.  These are some of my favorite events to attend each year, please check the attached DeLaura Details newsletter for times and dates.  It is a great event to bring the family out to and support our music department.  As always,  I hope everyone has a great weekend and go Scotties!

Good Evening Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,

We are down to the last 25 days of school and I am sure our students are excited for summer break that is on the horizon! We have a TON of events coming up these last 5 weeks including FSA testing, Spring music concerts, 8th grade Gradventure Trip, semester exams, and much more.  Please encourage your student to maintain focus this last month and setup a time to discuss with them some strategies to end the academic year with a strong finish.  A few important reminders about some upcoming events:

    • FSA Reading & FSA Math – FSA Reading and FSA Math testing will take place the week of May 3 – May 6th during the school day.  If you can, please try to have your student bring a pair of 3.5mm Aux style headphones (NOT Bluetooth,  Apple Lightning connector, AirPods, etc.).  Inside the attached DeLaura Details is a picture of the type of headphones that will connect to our school computers.  Students usually prefer to use their own headphones during FSA testing if possible.  We will have headphones for students if needed.

    • 8th Grade Gradventure – Gradventure at Universal will take place on May 13th and we are still currently at full capacity.  Once we are closer to the event, a full itinerary will be sent out to parents so they can have an idea of how the evening will go. Additionally, we are at our limit for chaperones and available charter bus space.  PLEASE remind your 8th graders to make good choices these next 3 or so weeks, we do not want one “bad choice” to happen this close to the event and make them ineligible for the trip.

    • BPS Community Input Meeting for the Next DeLaura Principal -  As I detailed in my E-mail to all parents on Monday, I will be resigning as DeLaura’s Principal at the end of this school year. There was an opportunity for a role within my family’s business and it was an offer that I could not turn down.  This was not a position that I was seeking out but circumstances aligned for the opportunity and it is what is in the best interest of my family at this time and for the long term.  As a result, the district will be holding a Community Input Meeting on Thursday, April 28th from 5:30pm – 6:30pm in the media center.  This meeting will be led by district personnel and they will seek input of the qualities that the community wants in the next DeLaura Principal.  All community members are welcome to attend and your input is extremely valuable as they select the new Principal.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and Go Scotties!

Good Evening Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,

We had a busy week here at DeLaura with FSA testing, basketball games, Gradventure ticket sales and the lead-up to Friday’s school dance!  Our students have done a tremendous job with their FSA’s this week and I wanted to thank everyone for their efforts.  A shout-out to our basketball and cheer teams as they finished up a great regular season on Thursday.  A big “thank you” to our coaches, Mr. Terry and Mr. Frankenfield for their hard work this season leading our basketball teams. Also, our cheerleaders did a tremendous job keeping the spirit alive at the games.  Additionally, thank you to Ms. Calderone for adding a school mascot to our athletic program and coaching our student mascot team.  These students put on a great show in the "Scottie Dog" costume and really added to the atmosphere, especially for our younger fans. Our boys basketball team has a first round playoff game on Tuesday against Stone at Palm Bay High’s gymnasium.  We wish them the best of luck in the postseason!

For our 8th Graders who are going to Gradventure who did not pay their 2nd installment this week, there will be additional collections day for money next week on Wednesday and Friday on the patio from 8:45am - 9:15am.   If a student does not pay the second installment next week, we will have to offer the seat to someone who is on the waiting list.  If you have any extenuating circumstances, please E-mail Mr. LeBrun.

Lastly, our Spanish teacher has recently retired and we are looking for a replacement to finish out the school year.  If you know of any retired Spanish teachers looking to come back for a little while, BPS substitutes fluent in Spanish or someone else who may be interested, please contact Mr. LeBrun via E-mail.  I hope everyone has a great weekend. Go Scotties!

Good Evening Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,

We had a great week here at DeLaura with some hard fought games by our basketball teams, preparations in the classrooms for FSA writes on Monday and the excitement leading up to the school dance! Next week, we have a variety of events and activities going on which are detailed below:

    • FSA Writes on Monday, April 4th – FSA writes will take place on Monday, April 4th and students will be taking this test starting at 9:30am.  Students will report to 4th period (their testing period) Monday morning and will stay in there for the duration of the test.  The bell schedule is attached to this E-mail.   Students may want to bring some additional snacks to keep in their backpack in the event that testing goes beyond the allocated time limit due to any unforeseen technology issues.
    • Final Gradventure Money Collection - The final payment collection dates for Gradventure will be April 4th – 8th before school on the patio. This is only for students who have already turned in their paperwork and paid the 1st installment back in February.  We will not be accepting new student sign-ups for the trip as the buses have already been ordered.  We have enough parent chaperones for the event, thank you to everyone who volunteered!
    • School Dance on Friday, April 8th: PTO will be sponsoring a school dance on April 8th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm in the DeLaura cafeteria.  Students must not have had one (1) out of school suspension or two (2) In-school suspensions from March 8th – April 8th to be eligible. Please see the attached dance information PDF for information and requirements.  DeLaura students only.
    • Inclement Weather Plan – Just a reminder to discuss an inclement weather plan with your student if they are a walker or bike rider.  If there is lightning or dangerous weather in the area, we may hold dismissal until it clears.  Text messages will be sent out for any arrival/dismissal changes.

Have a great weekend and Go Scotties!
