We are also getting some new umbrellas for increased shade and new signs around campus, welcoming our community. DeLaura is also designing some new classrooms with more collaborative furniture. Be a part of history. Please consider donating if you haven’t already. We appreciate all donations to this exciting project.
Checks can be dropped off in our front office made out to DeLaura Middle School PTO or donate online, either via a one-time payment or monthly payments. https://bit.ly/3CH2Kwd

DeLaura’s New Bronze Partner: Wheeler Legal. “At Wheeler Legal, we partner with our clients to ensure that their business has solid legal protection. Contact us at 321-209-5995 or check out our website at www.wheeler-legal.com".

Positive Message of the Week: In this special message, Mrs. Kidd talks about kindness and light: https://youtu.be/zoBnNozIakA
Dress Code Reminder: Our students should remember as part of our dress code, midriffs (stomachs) must be covered. Their shirts must meet their pants/shorts/skirts without skin showing. If a student is referred for a dress code violation the student will be required to wear a school-issued shirt for the day. Sweatshirts and jackets will no longer be accepted as a cover-up after being dress coded because students tend to unzip or remove them. As a reminder, 3 dress code violations in a semester will result in a dean’s detention. Thank you for your help with this.
Progress Monitoring Reports: On Wednesday, the English Teachers and Math 7/8 teachers distributed the results of the FAST Progress Monitoring 1 Test. These results are also located in “Test History” in your students FOCUS account. This test is given in August, then another (PM2) in January, and PM3 May. PM1 and PM2 covers the complete “test blueprint”, meaning all content expectations for that subject and grade level is assessed. These results are for information purposes only and will be used to identify areas that may need additional instruction and support. These results should NOT be considered student achievement designations. Below is a link of a general description to “Understanding Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) Reports for Families”: https://bit.ly/3DFjDI1 Please do not be alarmed by these first results. We’ll use them to help students improve through the school year.
Annual Health Notice Certifications: Please be aware a Clinic Parent Permission Form (Annual School Health Services Consent/Opt Out Form) needs to be on file in the Clinic to be able to provide First Aid Care and Services for your student. It has a list of individual selections you can make. We are happy to help your student with their First Aid needs. If your student is requiring medications at school, remember the student can not bring it to school. A parent or guardian would need to bring it in and sign a permission form for it to be administered at school. (Bring medications in their original package.)

Drop Off and Pick Up at DeLaura: Our #1 priority is student safety. One way we can all help with safety is to drive cautiously during morning drop off and afternoon pick up. We have some congestion during morning drop off that presents some dangers for walkers and bikers. Starting Monday, September 19, 2022, we will have cones out to close off the area closest to the office to cars. This will allow walkers and bikers to have a safer entry onto campus. We will work hard to ensure our drop off and pick up are as efficient as possible. Please see the graphics below to show our traffic patterns. Thank you for helping make DeLaura the safest school it can be.

Florida KidCare: Brevard Schools Foundation is partnering with Florida KidCare to help spread the message about how all children, regardless of income, can receive health insurance. Many families are not aware that they could qualify for benefits. With many changes in family circumstances due to COVID, rising inflation and more, there may be families who never experienced the need for subsidized coverage, but that could benefit from it now. Even families that do not meet income eligibility requirements are able to obtain coverage. This, especially, could be beneficial for self-employed individuals or those who just want to find a more competitive rate. For more information about the Florida KidCare program visit www.floridakidcare.org

Mr. Corso’s Principal’s Message
Friday, August 5, 2022
Thank you to everyone who came for Registration on Wednesday. It was wonderful seeing our students and families on campus. If you were unable to attend Registration, we have an alternative registration on Monday, August 8 from 3-6pm at school. I will also host another Meet the Principal opportunity at school on August 8 from 4:30-6pm.
Drop Off and Pick at DeLaura: Our gates open in the morning daily at 9:05am. Last Bell is 4:15pm. Students can be dropped off and picked up in front of school. Some families park in our lot and allow their children to come to them. Please be patient as we share our parking lot with Satellite High.
Students coming from the north end of campus…the gate and opening along the concrete wall to the north of Satellite High is going to be locked and blocked off to walkers and bike riders (see map below). For the safety of our students who are coming to school during the time Satellite buses are arriving as well as to enhance the security of Satellite, that area will be closed and locked to all foot and bike traffic.
Bikers and walkers coming from the north area can still get to DeLaura by way of the opening on the far east end of that wall where they will be able to cross at the stop signs to head to DMS.
Students, Bring a Water Bottle to School Everyday!
We have new water filling stations throughout our campus.
Openings at DeLaura: We have a few openings for support staff at DeLaura. We are in need of a Custodial and a Nurse/Health Clerk. If you know of anyone interested, please contact our front office.
Thank You to the DeLaura PTO: As our Educators returned to work, they provided donuts one day and lunch today (Friday). Your support of DeLaura is very much appreciated! If you are interested in joining our PTO, you can email our PTO president at president.delaurapto@gmail.com or visit our PTO facebook @Facebook.com/delaurapto
