Cell Phone Concern: It has been brought to our attention that some students have used their phones (app or other program) to simulate a whipping sound toward other students. This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated at DeLaura Middle School. Please speak to your students about respecting other people within our community and the importance of proper cell phone use.
Please help us remind students if they see something, say something. They can report to the dean’s office or to any adult on campus. Together, we can make DeLaura a better school for each and every student.
Cell Phone Policy: Cell phones must be put away while on campus after our warning bell rings at 9:27am for our first class. They are not to be visible, taken out, or used, at any time until the final bell of the day rings unless they are given permission by a DeLaura staff member. No pictures or videos are to be taken with phones and students will receive a disciplinary referral and consequence if they are. In addition, there is to be no posting of images-pictures, taken during school hours, even if the picture was posted by a student other than the one who took it. These infractions could also result in a disciplinary referral and consequence. DeLaura is not responsible if any electronic devices are lost, misplaced, etc.
Positive Messages:
- Good luck to DeLaura students who entered the Science Fair on Friday displayed at the Merritt Island Square Mall.
- Congrats to our All State Chorus Students and the chorus students who performed at the Solo & Ensemble Festival at Heritage HS and the Brevard All County Music Festival. A busy time for our singers!
- Congrats to our Math Scholars who were awesome at the Brevard County Schools Math Competition (DeLaura was in the Top 3 in All Categories).

Dress Code Reminder: This is a reminder to all students and families that students must wear clothes that cover all their undergarments. Some students are wearing very short, tight “volleyball shorts.” These are not appropriate for school attire. Thank you.
No Body Sprays used on Campus: Body sprays, like Axe, are not to be used in classrooms. Some students are allergic and these sprays can be harmful. Please remind your students they are not to be spraying fragrances or body sprays in the enclosed areas. Thank you!

FAST Test Results for PM2: Your child recently completed the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking. The FAST test is a computer adaptive test which measures your child’s progress aligned to the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T) standards.
For this transitional year, teachers and families must understand that this information is intended to provide baseline and interim results for PM1 and PM2, respectively. PM1 was given to all students in August 2022 while PM2 was given in January 2023. Students were given PM2 results today in English and Math classes. (Students enrolled in Algebra and Geometry will be given their MAPS testing results at a different time from their Math teacher.)
These results are for informational purposes only and should be used to identify areas that may need additional instruction and support. These results should not be considered student achievement designations. Because the administration of PM1 and PM2 fall at the beginning of the year and middle of the year, it is designed to provide a beginning of the year and mid-year score that will help teachers track progress in learning as it relates to the B.E.S.T standards.
Please make sure you are reviewing the results with your students. You may also see the results in FOCUS under test history and FAMILY Portal. If you have any questions on the results, please reach out to your students' Math or English teacher. If you have any problems accessing the results, please contact Mrs. Terry at terry.candacem@brevardschools.org.

Bus Riders: Recently we have seen some kids miss the bus in the afternoon to go home. Please remind kids how important it is to be in the gym right at dismissal. We call over our gym speaker system when buses are ready to be loaded (ie “Bus 52 is here”). If students are not where they are supposed to be, they might not hear the buses are ready for boarding. Buses come at different times each day so it is important that they go directly to the gym when the bell rings.
January 23-27 is Literacy Week Kids will be discussing their favorite book and what they like to read in their ELA classes. Maybe around the dinner table you can share books you like.

If you have any questions please email Mrs. Harris harris.beth@brevardschools.org
