Don't fall into the unhealthy and money sucking habit of buying soda and fruit juices. Water is still the best beverage for children who are busy playing! A glass of juice with a meal is fine - but make sure it's 100% juice and not full of sugar!
This is a great time for SALADS! Pasta, fruit, veggie, caesar, cobb...you name the ingredient and it can be tossed in a bowl with lots of other goodies!
Shop weekly specials, have a "pot-luck" night, buy in season fruits and vegetables. Look for inexpensive meals on the internet. (Looking at meals that were fixed during the Depression is a real eye opener!).
Involve your children in planning and preparing AND clean up! :-)
