  • As of 2014 GED® Testing has gone to a computer based testing format, this means:

    • passing score is 145 per section
    • same day or next day scores
    • registration is 24/7, and you pay online
    • you get to choose dates and times to test
    • you choose what sections you take in what order
    • essay is typed
    • to register you can go to www.GED.com and create a profile and begin the registration process
    • testing is usually done Monday thru Friday
    • if you tested prior to 2014 and did not pass all sections you will have to start over. 

     

    *If you are under 18 you must first enroll into a Brevard Schools Adult Education GED class and pass the official practice test and be in good attendance before the age waiver process may be started by the center Administrator.

    On the day of testing you must bring you state, or government issued id (driver’s license, military id, passport, etc.)

    • Birth certificates, social security cards, bills, and photocopies of id’s will not be accepted, it must be the actual id.
    • Cell phones, iPods, hats, food and drink are not allowed into the testing room
    • All watches, phones, hats and other personal items brought to the testing site must be locked up in a locker prior to entering the testing room. The testing site is not responsible for these items. If items are taken into the testing room the test will be invalidated and you will be asked to leave the testing site.

     

  • There are now only 4 sections to the test:


    Reasoning through Language Arts (RLA) covers:

    • The ability to read closely
    • The ability to write clearly
    • The ability to edit and understand the use of standard written English in context
    • The RLA has 3 sections to it, a reading section, the essay and the language skills section (punctuation and understanding grammar)
    • The time allowed for this test is 155 minutes (approx. 2.5 hours)

    Mathematical Reasoning covers:

    • Approximately 45 percent of the content in the test focuses on quantitative problem solving, and approximately 55 percent focuses on algebraic problem solving.
    • The test includes items that test procedural skill and fluency as well as problem solving.
    • The contexts within which problem solving skills are measured were taken from both academic and workforce contexts.
    • The statistics and data interpretation standards are included in the Math test
    • Candidates are provided with an on-screen calculator, the Texas Instruments TI-30XS Multiview scientific calculator, for use on most of the items on the 2014 GED® Mathematics Test.
    • The Math test is in 2 parts:
      • Part 1: for the first 5 questions, no calculators are allowed
      • Part 2: for the remaining 41 questions the calculator is allowed
    • The time allowed for the Math test is 120 minutes (2 hours)
  • Science covers:

    • Life science (approx. 40%)
    • Physical science (approx. 40%)
    • Earth and space science (approx. 20%)
    • The test includes items that test textual analysis and understanding, data representation and inference skills, as well as problem solving with science content.
    • Approximately 50 percent of the items are presented in item scenarios, in which a single stimulus (which may be textual, graphic or a combination of both) serves to inform two to three items. 
    • The time allowed for the Science test is 95 minutes.

    Social Studies covers:

    • Civics and government (approx. 50%)
    • United States history (approx. 20%)
    • Economics (approx. 15%)
    • Geography and the world (approx. 15%)
    • The test includes items that assess textual analysis and understanding, data representation and inference skills, and problem solving using social studies content.
    • Approximately 50 percent of the items are presented in item scenarios, in which a single stimulus (which may be textual, graphic or a combination of both) serves to inform two to three items. 
    • The time allowed for the Social Studies test is 75 minutes
