• Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP)
    For pension plan members

The Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) allows an employee to retire under the Florida Retirement System (FRS) Pension Plan and begin accumulating retirement benefits, without terminating employment for up to 60 months.  The earliest you may begin participating in DROP is the month that you reach normal retirement age or the month after which you reach your normal retirement date, based upon years of service.  Application should be made through the Office of Retirement at the Education Services Facility no less than 6 months before reaching normal retirement date or DROP deferral date.

Instructional personnel may be eligible to extend DROP participation beyond 60 months.  The retirement office will notify you and send you the necessary paperwork to extend DROP.

It is important that you contact the Division of Retirement and request a DROP estimate when you are within two years of your eligibility to participate. The number is: 1-844-377-1888.

Note:  the DROP Program is available to Pension Plan Members only.  Employees in the Investment Plan are not eligible to participate in DROP.  Contact the Division of Retirement about switching to the Pension Plan at: 1-866-446-9377.
