Harbor City Elementary
Welcome to a new and exciting school year! It is the intent of Harbor City's administration and staff to keep you well informed concerning our students, the school, and the community. Research shows that parent involvement is high on the list of factors contributing to student success in school. Our goal is to work with you to provide the best possible education for your child.
We feel parents are our partners in the important job of educating the children of this community. Show you are interested and concerned--Be There. Become a volunteer, actively participate in our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), or join us for School Advisory Council (SAC) meetings. At home, take time each day to inquire about experiences at school. Ask about homework assignments. Your consistent interest in your child's progress and personal development in school will motivate him/her to want to learn.
Home and school, working together as a team, will make the school year a very successful one for your child. We are looking forward to a wonderful and productive year at Harbor City Elementary.
Joy Salamone, Principal
Joy A. Salamone has worked for Brevard Public Schools for over 43 years. She served as a classroom teacher for 20 years, school-based administrator for 11 years and the Director of Human Resource Services/Labor Relations for 12 years. Joy previously served two elected terms as Mayor of the City of Cape Canaveral. She is a past president of the Brevard Association of School Administrators for two terms of office and the Past President of Florida Educational Negotiators.
She requested the opportunity to return to her love of working directly with students, parents, and teachers when the principalship opened at Harbor City Elementary School (HCE). She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to HCE and is excited to be with us.
Tami Lanterman, Assistant Principal
Ms. Lanterman was born and raised in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania where Groundhog Day is celebrated on February 2, and attended schools there. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and moved to Florida. While teaching in Brevard, she earned a Master of Science Degree in Education and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
Tami has been an educator for the past thirty-seven years with Brevard Public Schools. The first seventeen years were teaching grades K-6, and her administrative experiences are shaped by twenty years of successful leadership as an Elementary Assistant Principal. Deciding to become an administrator came from her strong desire to make a positive impact on the entire school community as well as to help teachers and students move further into the 21st Century.
