Principal
I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself as the new principal of Ocean Breeze Elementary School (OBE). I am extremely excited about working with you and the fabulous OBE staff to ensure that your child’s time at school is positive and productive.
While I was raised in New England, I’ve been visiting family and family friends in Brevard County since I was young. My husband and I have owned a residence in Satellite Beach for the last five years and are thrilled to be able to be here full time and participate in local “beachside” community events.
I come to OBE with an educational background in early childhood education, history and social science, reading and language arts, and educational leadership. I have served as a principal for the past seven years in two different Connecticut communities. Prior to that, I taught seventh and eighth grade social studies for many years. As both a teacher and principal, I believe that a strong home-school partnership is critical to student success at all levels. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead in such a beautiful and supportive community.
In just a few days in Indian Harbour Beach, I have had the pleasure of meeting many school and district staff, government officials, local law enforcement personnel, and numerous friends of Ocean Breeze. I can already see that OBE’s dedication to excellence is strongly supported by both school and local community members. My goal is to ensure that OBE continues to provide a safe and positive environment focused on student success.
I look forward to meeting each OBE family over the next few weeks and cannot wait to see all the amazing things our students will do in the 2018-2019 school year.
See you soon,
Shelley A. Michaud, Principal
Ocean Breeze Elementary SchoolAssistant Principal
I am looking forward to an exciting year at Ocean Breeze Elementary. I have been a teacher in Brevard County Schools System for 15 years and an assistant principal for 4 years. Students, family, and staff are very close to my heart, I really enjoy what I do.
I earned my B.S. degree and master's degree in elementary Education from the University of Florida (Go Gators!). I also earned my specialist degree, toward my Doctorate, in Education Leadership from the University of Central Florida.
I began my teaching career at Freedom 7 Elementary in Cocoa Beach, Florida. I taught kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th grade. I was then appointed assistant principal at Oak Park Elementary in Titusville, where I stayed for 3 years.
During my teaching career, I was awarded Teacher of the Year, became a Nationally Board Certified Teacher, and was an Ambassador for the Teaching Exchange Program in Italy for 3 months.
In the summertime, for 6 years, I enjoyed working with various companies at NASA. Keeping busy over the summer, I was able to learn some valuable technology skills that assist me in my everyday duties as an administrator. I was also rewarded with 2 trips aboard Zero G Weightless Flights out of Kennedy Space Center, an amazing experience that I love to share with my students.
I am looking forward to providing an innovative and positive learning experience for your child. I am very excited about being the assistant principal at Ocean Breeze Elementary.
