Welcome to the The Great Southwest's Media Center page!
Our Mission:
The mission of The Great Southwest Media Center is to serve every student with excellence through developing the habits of critical thinking, active learning, skillful researching, and creative problem solving. Our Media Center also strives to provide materials that will instill a love of reading and learning into the lives of our students.
Our daily hours are 9 am to 4:15 pm. Students are welcome to come before school, with their class, or on a pass from class. We have a variety of incredible things your student can be involved with including our School-Wide 20 Book Challenge, makerspace activities, board games before school, computers for working on assignments, 2 Book Fairs each year filled with fun, and all kinds of other awesome activities.

Mrs. Carrie Friday
Carrie Friday is the Media Specialist at Southwest Middle School in Palm Bay, Florida and a former Language Arts and Reading teacher. She isn't afraid to take risks and will do just about anything to encourage the love of literacy in students and teachers. She is one of the co-founders of the #swms20bookchallenge and a total YA author fangirl. She is a chapter leader of our school Project Lit Community chapter, a committee member for the state SSYRA 6-8 selection committee, and on the FAME Nominations committee. She believes in innovation, collaboration, and the power of really good books.
She is also a wife to a Rocket Scientist and a mom to the sweetest two girls you'll ever meet. She loves Gilmore Girls, Pinterest, coffee, and porch swings. She is a proud graduate of Auburn University. War Eagle!
