Reading and Discussion Book Club
Each year students are encouraged to read the Sunshine State Books. There are 15 Sunshine State books designated for each of the age groups: K-2, 3-5 and 6-8. Students are encouraged to read the books at the beginning of each school year and take a Reading Counts quiz to confirm that they comprehended the story. Students that pass the Sunshine State Reading Counts Quizzes can earn reading rewards.
Those students in grades 3-5 and 6-8 that have read the Sunshine State Books can join the Reading and Discussion (RAD) Book Club. Two RAD Book Club teams are formed each year. The RAD Book Club teams each consist of 12-15 members and will meet to discuss the Sunshine State Book and to prepare for the end of the year annual Reading SLAM, a friendly competion with other schools.
Members are selected for the Reading SLAM Team based on how many of the Sunshine State Books they read and how well they have comprehended the books. Students in the RAD Book Clubs will meet at a specified date to prepare for the Reading SLAM meetings.
