Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful break with your family and friends. It was exciting to welcome back all of our students yesterday, and we are looking forward to a great semester with them. Friday, January 10, 2020 is the last day of the first semester. Students will receive their second semester schedules on Monday, January 13th and begin their second semester classes that same Monday.

First semester grades will be posted on Focus on January 15, 2020 and report cards will be distributed on January 22, 2020. Midterm exams account for 20% of a student’s first semester grades. If your student missed a midterm exam, he or she can take a makeup exam after school during the week of January 13-17, 2020 with Ms. Smith in the cafeteria.

The next SAC meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 3:45 PM in the front office conference room.

The next PTO meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 6:00 PM in the Media Center.

The 10th Annual Viera High School Army JROTC Formal Ball will take place this Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 6:30 PM at the Indian River Colony Club. Guest Speaker is RADM (Ret) Wayne Justice. This is an event that teaches life skills such as how to respond to an invitation including how to RSVP, proper dress for a formal event, how to introduce yourself and your date as you go through a receiving line, proper table etiquette, and how to respect the American Flag during the posting and retrieval of the Colors. There will be 200 Cadets and their guest that will attend this beautiful event.

State statute requires that students in grades 6 through 12 will receive five (5) hours of instruction (annually) on mental and emotional health awareness and assistance. The district has provided resources for teachers to facilitate these lessons with our students.
