Brevard Public Schools Names Assistant Principal of the Year

Denise Stewart of Cocoa Jr. / Sr. High Named Assistant Principal of the Year

VIERA, Florida – Denise Stewart, assistant principal of Cocoa Jr. / Sr.  High School, has been named Brevard Public Schools’ Assistant Principal of the Year. Ms. Stewart has been an assistant principal at Cocoa Jr. / Sr.  High School for the past three years. Prior to joining the administrative ranks of Brevard Public Schools, Ms. Stewart was an instructional coach for Secondary Leading and Learning and was tasked with assisting new English and Social Studies teachers find their way as they began their new career in teaching.

This was a perfect fit as an intermediate step in her move into administration from being an English teacher at Merritt Island High School. When Mr. Wilson selected Ms. Stewart as his assistant principal it was because he was impressed with her “can-do” attitude, passion for under achieving students, and work ethic.

Since arriving on campus, Ms. Stewart has worked tirelessly to become part of the fabric that makes up the Cocoa Jr. / Sr. High School Community. She is tenacious with her belief in her student’s abilities, and is involved in all academic decisions made for and with those students. Because of Ms. Stewart's passion for all students, she has spearheaded a new pathway for students to dual enroll at Eastern Florida State College called "Tigers to Titans". This new pathway is focused on the non-traditional dual enrollment student to expand their opportunity for not just their high school career, but also their life choices after graduation.
