BPS joins the nation in recognizing National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 – October 15, 2021. This observance began as Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968 and later became a full 31-day observance in 1989 dedicated to celebrating the rich history, culture and contributions of Hispanic and Latino/a/X Americans across all American citizens whose ancestors originated in South America, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Spain. In addition to the 2021 Hispanic Heritage Month theme and student contest announced by First Lady Casey DeSantis, BPS is joining the observance by highlighting local and national contributors to our society and community, such as Astronaut Joseph Acaba, Mr. Sam Lopez, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the Brevard Hispanic Center, and more. There will be special spotlights on the displays and activities across our schools and sites, to include Cambridge Elementary, North-Central ALC and the Club De Espanol at Stone Middle School. We also have three virtual events available – free Zumba wellness class to all employees offered by Functionally Fit Gym, a Stakeholder Panel Event moderated by Dr. Stephanie Soliven and an Open House with departments and special guest presentations.
