Elementary Students Earn Digital Literacy Certifications
Viera, FL – For a growing number of elementary students in BPS, a normal day of school is focused on reading, writing, math, and digital literacy.
For the first time in BPS, students are learning digital literacy skills in the 6th grade at 16 of our elementary schools.
BPS Media Specialists have been teaching students about Computer Fundamentals, including information on types and uses of computers, input and output devices, the internet, email etiquette, documents, and spreadsheets. There is an emphasis on cybersecurity, maintaining privacy, and managing online risks.
“The process of earning their first digital tool opens the door to future achievements with digital tools and industry certifications in Business and Coding in middle school and beyond,” said BPS Superintendent Dr. Mark Mullins.
Students can earn their first digital tools by taking the ICT Fundamentals exam. Students at Cambridge Elementary were the first to earn their certifications.
Students at Sea Park Elementary recently had the highest rate of certification completion with 94% of 6th graders in the course passing the ICT Fundamentals exam.
