Brevard Public Schools Makes Progress in Union Contract Talks

Viera, FL – Today Brevard Public Schools (BPS) hosted Brevard Federation of Teachers Union (BFT) in a first round of contract negotiations ahead of the 2022-2023 school year. Progress was made in two main areas during the nearly eight hours of negotiations.

• Premium Pay: Teachers will be eligible for three payments of $1,000, $1,200, and $1,200 throughout the school year. Teachers with eight years of service or more to BPS will get an additional $1,000 payment.
• BPS offered teachers $45.00 to cover a class when a fellow teacher is out; this is up from the current $15.00 and a higher offer than what was being asked for by the union. BPS knows the great lengths our teachers go to everyday, and this shows the district’s acknowledgment of the value our teachers bring to our students.

BPS and BFT will continue contract negotiations on Thursday May 5^th.
