A Letter from the Principal
Dear Oak Park Families,
I hope that all of you are safe and healthy. We miss having our students on campus! Please say "hello" to them for me.
We have almost completed our very first week of distance learning. Hopefully, you have connected with your child's teacher by now. If you have not, please email them or call them so that they can help guide you through this process. You can call the office between the hours of 9-3 M-F. We truly understand that this is not easy and is a huge change for all of us so we are here for you and the students. It will take all of us working together to ensure that your child is successful.
I have had many questions regarding attendance. Students should now see an "I’M PRESENT" green button on their main FOCUS page. They will need to click on it daily in order to be considered present for the day. The button will turn from GREEN to GREY once a student has been logged. We understand that many of you have multiple students working on one device. Please know that the students can work on assignments during times that are convenient for you and your family. That may include evening or weekend hours. You do not have to have students work on assignments only during "normal" school hours. I hope that this will help you as you plan how to map out your days for student learning. You can be very flexible. If you need assistance with mapping out a schedule for your student, please contact your child's teacher for assistance.
As a reminder, students will use FOCUS as the primary point of contact with teachers. Assignments, grades, and communication will be maintained through FOCUS. Parents are encouraged to check FOCUS for updates daily. If your child is having any challenges with their content, please reach out to their teachers. Just like in the classroom, they are the best first points of contact to provide guidance and support for their questions about assignments and curriculum. If your child is locked out of their account, please wait about ten minutes, and it will be unlocked automatically. We will continue with online learning through May 1, 2020 or until the Governor states otherwise. The entire Oak Park staff is here to support you and your student through this process. Please reach out to us if you experience any challenges. Our entire faculty including Ms. Turner and myself will be working remotely from home beginning Wed. 4/8. Again, please call the front office from 9-3 M-F and leave a detailed message, and we will call you back as we will be monitoring Oak Park's voicemail from home.
Please note that we will continue to serve meals in the bus loop Mon-Fri between the hours of 10:30-1:30. The Children's Hunger Project will also be distributing meals on Fri (including today) from 10:30-1:30.
I will continue to keep you updated. If you need to reach me, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a message on the school voicemail, and I will return your phone call. Again, we are here to support you.
I hope that everyone stays safe and healthy. Thank you for your patience as we transition from traditional school into online learning. Remember, we can do this together as an Oak Park family!
Yours for children,
Susan Mulchrone Principal
