The importance of regular attendance cannot be overemphasized. A child should be in school every day that he/she is physically able. It is extremely difficult to successfully keep up with classwork if attendance is irregular. It is equally important that students arrive to school on time to alleviate missed instructional time. The district’s attendance policy states:
• A student who is absent more than nine (9) days within a semester will not receive a passing grade for the semester. • Absences not counted in the nine (9) days/four (4) days attendance policy are: court dates, religious holidays, illness with medical documentation, and chronic and extended illness. • Kindergarten students must be in attendance for a minimum of 162 days, as a criterion for progression to first grade. • All students must be in attendance a minimum of four (4) hours of instructional time to be considered present each day.
