Week of November 25, 2019 – November 29, 2019

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that we are already at Thanksgiving week. At Viera High School, we have a lot to be thankful for and celebrate this school year.

Viera High School will be closed Wednesday, November 27, 2019 – Friday, November 29, 2019 and will reopen on Monday, December 2, 2019.  I hope you and your families have a wonderful Thanksgiving break and we look forward to our students returning on Monday, December 2, 2019.

Midterm exams will take place December 17-20, 2019.  The VHS midterm exam schedule is now posted on our school website.  Please access this schedule in order to plan for your student’s exams.  In an effort to maintain the integrity and security of all exams, midterm exams will not be given earlier than the scheduled day and time.  Should a student miss an exam due to an absence, he/she would need to take the exam after winter break with Mrs. Smith.    A grade of an “F” will be issued until the exam is taken. If the exam is not taken, the “F” will remain as the final exam grade.

Congratulations to the theater department on a successful showing of “We Will Rock You” this past weekend.  Our students, staff, parents, and community really enjoyed the fantastic show.

Viera High School will offer Driver Education during zero hour for the second semester, starting on Wednesday January 8, 2020.  The cost of the course will be $80.00, payable on the first day of class.  Students must have a valid Learners Permit by the start of the course.  Zero hour starts at 7:15 AM and ends at 8:15 AM on all school days.  Registration must be completed in person at our guidance office reception desk and will be done on a first come, first serve basis, beginning December 2, 2019.  There are 27 spots available.  If you have any questions please e-mail Tim Rooney at rooney.tim@brevardschools.org.

Our next SAC meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 in the front office conference room at 3:45 PM.  These meetings are open to the public.

Viera High School’s Guidance Department is honored to host two of our nation’s Military Academies. Current First Class (senior year) Cadets Kacie Mau & Emma Compagnoni will be presenting valuable information from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Current Academy Midshipman Andrew Baez will be presenting vital first-hand knowledge from the U.S. Naval Academy. We encourage interested students and/or parents (grades 9-12) to come at the listed dates and times, as there is no need to sign up. For questions please email: fink.heidi@brevardschools.org

·         Monday, November 25th, 2019 U.S. Coast Guard Academy at 8:00am in the VHS Auditorium

·         Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019 U.S. Naval Academy at 8:00am in the VHS Auditorium

Guidance Update:  We encourage parents to continue to use FOCUS for grade update information and teacher communication as a means to support their children’s academic success.  This seems to be the time in the semester where students get “tired” and grades sometimes dip.  Also, for any student who has not yet registered for EFSC courses, it is imperative those students meet with their school counselors and EFSC advisors to register for classes.

Our yearbook staff has been working hard to finish the yearbook.  The 2020 Yearbook price is going up on November 30, 2019. Please go to Josetensyearbooks.com to order your students book at the cheaper price.

ALL (new & existing) FLVS *OFF-CAMPUS* students completing a 0.5 or 1.0 credit course second semester that need assistance with enrollment and/or course self-registration: Mr. Formanek will host special enrollment & registration sessions in the virtual lab (4-209) based on the schedule below.
