Week of February 3 - 7,

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to VHS Teacher of the Year, Elizabeth Youngs, and VHS Employee of the Year, Vincenzo Russo, who were honored last Wednesday at the ABC Awards Ceremony. We are proud to have such excellent staff serving our students, parents, and community at Viera High School.

Parent Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Please review your student’s grades on Focus and call the front office to schedule an appointment if you would like to meet with any of your student’s teachers during that time.  The front office staff would be happy to schedule an appointment for you and will begin accepting calls for appointments on Monday, February 10, 2020.

Mental Health lessons will be provided to students in February and March in accordance with state statute.  The modified bell schedule for Mental Health Mondays is currently posted on our website and will be in effect on February 17, February 24, March 2, March 9, and March 30.  Parents may log into his or her student’s Launchpad in order to access the lessons that will be delivered in class and preview the content.  Also, guidance counselors and the school social worker will be available to support our students on these days.

Guidance counselors are currently meeting with students individually to register them for their courses for the 2020-2021 school year.  Please discuss this process with your student to ensure that you are having conversations with them about the courses they are selecting and that they align with their future goals and plans.

Parents frequently drop off items to their students in the front office for their students throughout the day.  I wanted to remind you of some important school policies identified in our student planners to ensure student safety and limit class disruptions.  Only persons listed as contacts on the emergency contact screen can drop off food and this process must be conducted in the front office.  Please note that no food delivery services may be used to deliver food to our students during the school day. Due to the amount of drop offs during the day, parents are now expected to show their id to the front office staff, write their student’s name on a sticky note, attach a sticky note to the food item, and leave the food item on the table located in the front office.  Your student may pick up his or her item between classes or during lunch. They may not leave class to pick up an item dropped off to ensure that they are not missing instructional time.  Thank you for supporting our school policies to ensure student safety and prioritize student learning.

Attention seniors: Brevard Schools Foundation 2020 scholarships are now available! The deadline to submit applications is: Sunday, March 8, 2020 and is open to all seniors.
