VHS Parent Update - March 27
Good Afternoon Viera High School Families,
First and foremost, I hope that all of you are safe and healthy. We miss having our students on our campus, but our staff is looking forward to interacting with our students virtually through online instruction. Online instruction will begin on March 30, 2020.
Students will use FOCUS as the primary point of contact with teachers. Assignments, grades, and communication will be maintained through FOCUS. Parents are encouraged to check FOCUS for updates daily. Our teachers have prepared standards based lessons with essential content to support our student learning, while keeping in mind the fact that multiple family members may be sharing devices. We will strive to provide excellent instruction, while still using grace, flexibility, and understanding with our students and families.
All teachers will have a daily posting in Focus to inform parents and students of expectations. Teachers may use a platform, such as Google Classroom, as a working environment. Students are expected to check in with each teacher daily via Focus for updated information, assignments, and due dates. This check in should be done by simply logging into FOCUS to ensure consistency with teacher updates. Logging into FOCUS also acts as the attendance record for the day. Students are expected to stay current with all assignments and follow teacher direction for submission of assignments.
All students can communicate with teachers via email. Students should use their Brevard Public Schools email address which is the student email@example.com. Teacher email addresses are located on the Viera High School website or on FOCUS. Teachers will respond to email within a 48-hour time period. Please visit our website and click on the Student Launchpad and Parent Focus Information link. This will allow you to access many resources that we have uploaded for you and your student to troubleshoot focus and Launchpad. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com with any technology questions.
During this time, our office is closed, but we still will be available by phone (from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM) or email to assist with your questions or if you need to schedule an appointment. Our school counselors and social worker are also available to work with students through email or phone appointment.
We look forward to a successful first day of online instruction with our students on Monday!
