MELBOURNE, FL, Aug. 3, 2022 - As a new school year begins, staff members across the district are getting their campuses ready to welcome students. University Park Elementary (UPE) in Melbourne is no different.

In addition to the anticipated setup in classrooms, UPE had several punch list items in need of completion. John Davis from BPS Transportation noticed and offered his assistance to UPE’s principal, Ana Diaz.

Projects like mulching and touch-up paint were needed to get the school ready for the first day. Mr. Davis said, “I was at a meeting at University Park Elementary and saw the needs that Ms. Diaz had…I felt that we should do whatever we could to help her and the staff to spruce things up.”

Principal Diaz compiled a list of tasks, and Mr. Davis and other Transportation team members got to work, with as many as seven people volunteering at a time.

“People like [Mr. Davis] make me proud to be part of team BPS and give us all the hope we need to continue on this so very worthwhile mission,” said Principal Diaz.

When asked what inspired him to contact the school, Mr. Davis expressed, “We are all in this together no matter what department!”
