Surtax funding supports a range of physical security improvements across Brevard Public Schools. This is not a new tax. The Sales Surtax is a renewal of the existing half-cent sales tax that helps fund safe, maintained, and modern school facilities. These investments include secure single-point entry, upgraded locks and gates, reinforced front office safety features, expanded security camera coverage, and modern emergency alert systems. Every visitor entering a school is directed through the front office for check-in, helping schools monitor access and maintain secure learning environments. These upgrades create safer entrances, give schools greater visibility across the property, and make it possible to respond quickly in an emergency. Surtax helps ensure schools have the safety infrastructure needed to help protect students and staff. Strong Schools. Strong Brevard. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫, 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐭. Neither are new. Both are already in place. The first is the 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐱 — a sales tax renewal that funds safe, maintained, and modern school facilities. The Surtax is the small portion of sales tax that stays right here in Brevard to keep school buildings safe, in good repair, and up to date. It funds three things: 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞. Over the next several weeks, we'll share more about what the Surtax funds. 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬. What is Millage and how do our schools benefit? The second measure on November's ballot is the Millage — a property tax renewal that funds the teachers, programs, and technology that make learning happen every day in Brevard County classrooms. Millage is the small portion of PROPERTY TAXES that stays right here in Brevard County, locally approved by voters to directly support Brevard Public Schools. Every dollar collected goes to the people and programs inside our schools. Millage funds three things: SALARIES, ESSENTIAL PROGRAMS, AND CLASSROOM TECHNOLOGY. Strong Schools. Strong Brevard. School Report Card Grade- The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), requires that a Local Educational Agency prepare and disseminate an annual Local Educational Agency report card and provide information on state, local, and school performance and progress in an understandable and uniform format. District and School grades provide an easily understandable way to measure the performance of a school. Parents and the public can use the grades and their components to understand how well each district and/or school is serving its students. Use the links provided below to view either the 2023-2024 Brevard School District Report Card or Apollo’s School Report Card.
