Chris Hattaway, Employee of the Year

Rockledge, FL – Brevard Public Schools has named School Resource Officer (SRO) Chris Hattaway of Rockledge High School as its Employee of the Year, recognizing his outstanding dedication to student safety, mentorship, and community engagement.

A Rockledge High graduate and proud Raider, Officer Hattaway brings 13 years of law enforcement experience to his role. His professional honors include being named City of Rockledge Safety Employee of the Year and receiving the Outstanding Young Floridian Award for Public Safety. Yet, his contributions extend far beyond accolades.

At Rockledge High, Hattaway has led initiatives that make a lasting impact on students and families, including:

  • Launching a lunchtime counseling program to support student well-being

  • Organizing holiday gift drives benefiting hundreds of students

  • Creating a free summer camp for at-risk youth

  • Introducing K9 Trusty, the school’s therapy dog and beloved mascot

  • Building trust through mentorship and community partnerships

District leaders praised Hattaway for embodying Raider Pride and the mission of Brevard Public Schools. “Officer Hattaway’s commitment ensures that students feel safe, supported, and valued every day,” officials said.
