Melbourne, FL — Brevard Public Schools (BPS) is proud to announce the launch of the Health First Healthcare Academy at Melbourne High School, featuring a specialized Patient Care Assistant (PCA) Program designed to prepare students for success in the growing healthcare industry.
This innovative Career & Technical Education (CTE) Choice Program offers a rigorous sequence of courses aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical training in the Health Science career cluster. Students will gain hands-on experience and develop competencies essential for employment in nursing homes, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities.
Program Highlights
• Courses in Biology, Health Science Foundations, and Anatomy & Physiology
• Specialized senior-year training with application to the Patient Care Assisting curriculum
• Instruction in medical terminology, legal and ethical responsibilities, gerontology, nutrition, and pet-facilitated therapy
• Certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – Heart Saver Level
• Development of interpersonal and employability skills
Students who successfully complete the program with a grade of C or higher will be eligible to take the Florida Board of Nursing exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) — opening doors to immediate employment or further education in healthcare.
