Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School welcomed a group of distinguished guests on Wednesday, May 6, for a tour of the school's Aqua Science Program and a chance to meet with students. Visitors included Congressman Mike Haridopolos, Florida Institute of Technology President Dr. John Nicklow, Brevard Zoo CEO Keith Winsten, Cocoa Beach Mayor Keith Capizzi, and Brevard Public Schools Board Members Megan Wright (District 1) and Gene Trent (District 2), and Brevard Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell.
The morning visit highlighted the hands-on environmental and marine science learning happening every day at Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High. The group began their tour with the Aqua Science Program, followed by a stop at the school's Outdoor Classroom. They wrapped up the visit in an 11th grade Government class, where students had the opportunity to engage directly with their U.S. Representative.
The visit also spotlighted the strong network of community partners helping power the program, including Florida Institute of Technology, the Marine Resource Council, Restore Our Shores, and Brevard Zoo. The Space Coast Aquarium Society was recognized for sponsoring the school's fish breeding program, a unique, student-driven initiative that gives Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High students real-world experience in aquaculture and marine conservation.
Brevard Public Schools is proud of the work being done at Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High and grateful for our community partners and their investment in our students and championing the kind of hands-on learning that prepares young people to lead in our region's growing marine science and aerospace industries.
