Designed exclusively for students whose disabilities require intensive educational and therapeutic support, the new K–12 Separate Day School expands access to the specialized services and individualized learning environments they need to succeed. The school is expected to open in January 2027.
Brevard Public Schools is expanding educational opportunities for some of the district’s most vulnerable students with the construction of a new K–12 Separate Day School, a specialized educational facility designed exclusively for students with disabilities whose Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) require a highly structured therapeutic learning environment. The school is expected to open in January 2027.
The new facility reflects the district’s commitment to ensuring every student has access to the educational setting, specialized services, and individualized support needed to achieve academic, social, and emotional success. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, the Separate Day School will provide intensive educational and therapeutic services tailored to meet each student’s unique needs in a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
Located on the campus of Kennedy Middle School in Rockledge, the centrally located facility has been intentionally designed to promote learning, emotional regulation, safety, and student well-being. Students will receive individualized instruction while benefiting from integrated therapeutic, behavioral, and mental health supports delivered by specialized educators and professionals.

By expanding these services, we are ensuring that some of our most vulnerable learners receive the individualized instruction, specialized supports, and opportunities they need to achieve success. Students served by the Separate Day School will receive individualized educational programming designed to help them build academic skills, increase independence, and reach meaningful personal growth while receiving the specialized supports identified through their IEPs.
The new facility will include:
Highly structured learning environments
Sensory regulation spaces
Mental health and therapeutic support areas
Design features that promote safety, predictability, and emotional well-being
Technology-enhanced instructional tools
Outdoor spaces designed to support structured learning, recreation, and emotional regulation
The project also demonstrates the district’s commitment to responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. Construction is being completed without incurring additional debt, allowing Brevard Public Schools to expand specialized services while maintaining its strong focus on fiscal responsibility.
