Welcome to the HMS Media Center
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to provide a quality program encouraging all students to become lifelong learners, effective users of information, critical and creative problem solvers, while providing an environment that encourages a love of reading.
Hoover's Media Center:
Students visiting the media center enjoy reading, research, learning information skills, Beanstack reading challenges, and creating in the maker space. Students visit with classes and as individuals. Reading, inventing, and helping students obtain information literacy skills is a primary focus of the Hoover Library Media Center.
Students use a variety of resources including print materials, robotics, and computer labs. The library collection is expanded with the use of electronic databases such as World Book Online and our eBook Collection. Students also have electronic access to research materials through the Gale student resource databases and the Florida Electronic Library.
Students also explore their creative and problem solving sides in the Northrup Grumman Innovation Center (a maker space) located in the Hoover's Library Media Center. Everything from composing music to 3D design and printing to programming robotics and more is available to interested students.
Library Leaders Club:
The Hoover Library Leaders Club is an opportunity for students to earn service hours while learning about the inner workings of the Hoover Media Center. Students will learn important skills such as:
The Dewey Decimal System
Book Shelving
Creating exciting literary themed displays
Delivering books, DVDs, and materials to teachers
Basic book repair
If you are interested in expanding your knowledge of how a library works, you have come to the right club! The Hoover Library Leaders will meet every Friday from 8:30 am - 9:25 am starting Friday, September 26, 2025. Learn more about Hoover's Library Leaders Club.

Beanstack Reading Challenge Platform:
This school year, Hoover students and teachers will be using Beanstack, a platform designed to make reading fun! Beanstack uses competition, recognition, and proven gamification principles to motivate students to read and develop a life-long love of reading!
Read Across the Globe - Reading Challenge:
Welcome to Hoover’s "Read Across the Globe" IB Global Contexts Reading Challenge! Starting December 1, 2025 until May 1, 2026, we're inviting all students to read books that help them explore personal histories and journeys, what it means to be human, rights and responsibilities in communities, and reflect on how these memoirs impact world-interconnectedness. Read stories with people who are from different countries and cultures, overcome adversities, or have different global experiences and perspectives. Log your reading to earn exciting badges, earn prizes, and track your progress towards becoming a “Global" IB Learner! Go to the BPS Sora app on your Launchpad or stop by the media center and try titles like: The Bluest Sky, Facing the Lion: Growing Up Maasai on the African Savanna, A Long Walk to Water, or When Stars Are Scattered. Be sure to log your minutes under the Beanstack Read Across the Globe Reading Challenge.
