Walking down the field after the senior night game, the boys lacrosse team prepares to celebrate their achievement of beating Merritt Island six to four.

Boys Lacrosse Earns a Win on Senior Night by Sarah Cameruci

As the season came to a close, the time came to recognize this year's graduating members of the boys lacrosse team. A senior night ceremony was held prior to the last home game of the regular season. Players walked down the field alongside their families and were commemorated for their dedication to the sport over the years. They also shared what their plans were after graduation, and their favorite memories from being a part of Mel High Lacrosse. “My favorite part of senior night was when I got to walk with my family, and I was hearing the support from my team,” said senior Santos Padilla. At senior night, it was tradition for the underclassmen on the team to line up on the field, holding their sticks in the air, in order to create an arch for the boys to walk through. “Once the season is over, I’m going to miss the friends I’ve made since being on the team,” said Padilla.

While the night was already a special one, the boys were able to get a win over the Merritt Island Mustangs, making it even more memorable . “For me, the best part of senior night was getting the win and the sideline celebrations from our team after we scored,” said senior Oscar Sautreuil. “It felt good knowing that we beat a team that was ranked better than us,” Sautreuil said. “My favorite part of the night was getting to walk with my family, but it was also nice to win the game,” said senior Luke Lemons.

The seniors on the team took time to reflect on what they had learned over the years from playing high school lacrosse. Lemons said, “I have learned about how to take a loss and move on and come back better to win in the next game.” His teammate replied similarly, “since being on this team, I’ve learned that you have to put the team over yourself and selfishness gets you nowhere,” said Sautreuil. While it may have been difficult to round out the season, members were able to walk away as better individuals and teammates.
