TV Production Begins “Signing off” Preparations by Kayce Harris
The end of the school year is making its way around the corner and people are starting to prepare for their AP, IB and final exams that are coming up in May. But, for a certain few, they prepare to make their way to the screens one last time. Students in Digital Design 4 and 5 have worked hard all year to make the Morning Announcements that we see each and every day and it’s their time to sign off for the year. Junior Myles Alonzi is in Digital 5 and he has already begun to make his way to the finish line, but the question still remains, how is he going to sign off this year? “Each period makes their own video,” Alanzi said, “you do it however you want, it’s up to you in your group.” Making the video will take time, so it’s good to get a head start when you can since the project is due in May. “It’s the last outro of the news so that’ll be like before exams,” said Alanzi. As for the video, it is suggested that it’s better to “keep it under two minutes if we can,” Alanzi explained.
But, Alanzi isn’t the only one who’s preparing for this upcoming project, junior Renna Petrides, who is in Digital 4, is also working on it. “I think I want to have different clips of me doing what I like to do,” said Petrides. “For example, having little clips of me taking pictures, or at the sunrise with my friends, or even at Disney or something. I really enjoy being with my friends and doing things I love and I want my video to be able to capture that aspect of me.” Petrides plans to involve her friends, who she has an incredible connection with, to help her complete her project and nothing will stop her from reaching her goal, unless… “I think this will be a little hard, and I’m going to be really nit-picky because it’s about me. I’m a little bit of a perfectionist and I notice a lot of the tiny details that others may miss,” Petrides explained. “The main editing of the video shouldn’t be too bad though!” She has also had a bit of an adventure with Digital Design. She took Digital Design her freshman year but had forgotten a lot of what she had learned, but coming back to the class this year “has brought back what I learned how to deal with, while also teaching me new things,” Petrides said. “I’m really proud of how I’ve been able to develop my own style of editing videos and capturing moments through this year.”
Moving back up to the top, senior Timmy Floyd is working alongside Petrides with the project. Floyd is currently in Digital Design 5 and he will be graduating this year. So, the whole team, which includes Petrides, Floyd, and another student, needs to work together to finish it, and each student needs to make their part and so it can be put together for the final product. “I’m compiling clips from all of the anchors on my team to show what all of us do, both on camera and off,” said Floyd. But with this being his final year of signing off, it will be hard since he will move on to college and leave high school behind. “While I am excited to be going on to college, I will miss what I had here, and that includes the Morning Announcements program I have helped build,” Floyd explained. “I have had a wonderful time being in charge of a film crew this year. There have been times where it got challenging, but we have continued to work hard to ensure that the news is always done on time.” Even though each team for each period will eventually sign off over the coming weeks, most will return so everyone will be able to see their pretty faces again next year.
