IB Study Buddies by Isabelle Hesie
On the first Wednesday of every month, IB students could be found together after school. The students would participate in IB study buddies to overcome the challenges of the rigorous program. Junior Raph Yucon is one of the many students who attended the group study session. “I think the study buddies helps because having a beneficial incentive for a program like IB is crucial, making it seem like the hard work isn’t for nothing” said Yucon
The IB program had a large workload. “The hardest part of IB has to be the workload. Although it was expected, it really hits you like a truck mid junior year” said Yucon. However, he is not the only one who felt that way. Gavin Merrell, a junior, also felt that the workload is the most difficult part of IB. However, he also points out the advantages of the program. “It gives me the discipline I will need in college while giving me college credit” said Merrell. It had been challenging at times, but the benefits were well worth it.
In addition to the benefits, the IB community was an encouraging group of students. Events like IB study buddies helped students to connect and push each other. “It really is refreshing having a bunch of IB students collaborate on work and reminds you that you aren’t alone” said Yucon. Having other students to help reduced the amount of stress the students had. Overall, IB study buddies displayed the academic challenges and how students work to overcome them.
