As junior Hannele Hanson’s AP Pre-Calc exam starts to roll around the corner, she has begun to review the things that her Pre-Cal teacher, Mrs. Cara, has taught her. As Hanson reviews, she starts redoing problems in her notebook, which is always a great place to start.

AP Exam Madness: Students Prepare for AP Exams by Kayce Harris

With all kinds of the AP tests coming up, it’s about to get tough. Students all around campus are in the mindset of “study study study". Junior Hannele Hanson is currently in AP Pre-Calc along with a few other juniors. “We’ve been doing FRQ’s in class and practice FRQ problems and reviews for homework,” said Hanson. FRQ are Free Response Questions and lots of AP classes have them along with DBQs, LEQs and more. But for Hanson she said she’s been doing “homework and some extra credit and watching videos [Mrs. Cara] provided as part of the homework” to help her prepare. “I still got to prepare but by the time I’m done, I’ll feel confident,” Hanson said.

Hanson isn’t the only one glued to videos and homework, junior Elle Curtis is also preparing for her AP exam. “I’m taking AP English language and composition on May 14th,” Curtis said. Her exam is less than two weeks away and who knows how she’s been preparing. “Not at all ever,” Curtis said about practicing at home. “I just haven’t felt the need to because my class has prepared me really well. We’ve been doing practice tests since the first semester. I’ve learned a lot about how to write different styles of essays and how to make each effective.” Out of the practice exams she’s taken, she’s made fives on all of them. “I’m honestly excited,” Curtis said about the exam, “I’d say this is one of the classes I thrive in and I feel confident.”

But of course there are some who are studying for more than one AP exam. London Naftal is one of the unlucky few who are. She’s explained that she’ll be taking “AP Lang on May 14th and Pre-Calc on May 13th.” Everyone can imagine the stress this could put on Naftal but, to everyone’s surprise, she’s not too stressed. “To be honest I’m not worried about them being back to back because lang is easy,” said Naftal. “Lang I’ve been reviewing the individual parts of the essays and outlining practice essays. For pre calc I have been reviewing my notes and doing practice FRQs and MCQs on AP classroom.” Yet studying in class won’t be the only way an AP student has to prepare, they have to study at home and whenever they can. “Lang I’ve been reviewing the individual parts of the essays and outlining practice essays. For Pre-Calc I have been reviewing my notes and doing practice FRQs and MCQs on AP classroom,” Naftal said. As always, doing all of the practice and studying now will help Naftal and other AP students in the long run and like Mr. Woodbury has said “In order to cruise through May, you have to grind through April.”
