Dual-Enrollment Students Prepare for Final Exams at EFSC by Isabelle Heise

With the end of the year coming up, finals are swiftly approaching. For dual enrollment students, finals are coming even quicker. The week of May 5th Eastern Florida State College (EFSC) is holding their finals. Junior Cassidy Mammay is one of the many students stressed about their tests. “My most stressful final was definitely my chemistry final. That class is definitely my hardest class with the most material to go over and memorize,” said Mammay. The intensity of the final depended greatly on the classes students were in.

Additionally, the type of final depends on the class. Some classes had tests while others had projects. The subject mattered as well as how the class was taught. EFSC students have the option to take in person, online, or hybrid classes. Junior Renna Petrides took various types of classes during the spring semester. “My final for my humanities class was a project in which I had to create a virtual museum through either powerpoint or a website. For my chemistry class, I have one test online and two in person. My Anatomy and Physiology  final is one lab practical and one online lecture test,” said Petrides. She points out that her core classes tend to have more difficult finals than her electives, like humanities. Overall, it really depends on what class students are taking part in.

Because of how different the classes can be, studying for each exam looks different for every student. The material on tests or projects will look different from class to class. This can be because of the class structure, subject, and the professor. “When studying for my chemistry class, I focus more on memorizing formulas, and practice problems with those formulas. But when studying for my biology class, I focus more on vocab memorizing, and knowing how species have evolved,” said Mammay. Students have to discover what works best for them when studying for their finals.

For those who were overwhelmed with finals, it was nice to receive advice from other dual enrolled students. “My biggest tip is to start studying early, cramming at the last minute for finals is not fun and it is very stressful. I would also recommend doing different study methods depending on the material” Mammay said. Students needed to be smart with their studying during finals. Finals were very important and could determine if a student will pass or fail a class. The biggest thing students had to remember was to relax and do their best.
