Bulldogs Participate in BPS' "Bring Your Kid to Work Day" by Autumn Long

Like many on campus, Kaila Long got the chance to join her mom at work for Bring Your Kid to Work Day. Her mom works as a financial advisor, helping people plan how to manage their money. “I didn’t really help her out,” junior Kaila Long said. “I just sat in on a meeting and learned about a client case.” Even though they mostly observed, they still learned a lot about what the job is like.

Long said the most interesting thing they learned was about annuities. “An annuity is a financial product that pays you a set amount of money at regular intervals, often used for retirement income,” Long said. It was a new concept for them, but seeing it in action helped them understand how it works.

By the end of the day, the student had a lot of respect for what their mom does. “I was inspired by my mom because I thought it was super cool that she does this job every day. Her clients are very lucky people,” Long said. Still, she has a different goal in mind. “My mom’s job is super cool, but I wouldn’t want to do it because I want to be a nurse.” Even if their future job is different, the day gave them a new appreciation for hard work and helping other
