Yearbook Team Completes Spring Supplement by Kamryn Simcox
Senior Paige Vaughn who is also the sports editor is wrapping the school year on one of final assignments. Once the yearbook has been submitted, year bookers have an assignment called Spring Supplement. Spring Supplement is a magazine type of packet that they put into the yearbook. “We started doing Spring Supplement last year and I think it adds a nice touch to the book,” Vaughn said. Spring Supplement can cover a ton of different topics that may happen after the yearbook has been submitted or events the team wasn’t quite able to get to.
“We started doing a spring supplement because we have a certain deadline for the yearbook to be done in time for the seniors to get it before school ends and that means we miss some exciting activities through spring such as prom, theater shows, and grad bash. The supplement allows us to cover it,” Vaughn said. This also allows students who weren’t covered or hardly covered in the yearbook to be mentioned and get some coverage. This gets everyone's point of view, to make sure everyone’s story is heard, and make sure all students are involved.
Supplement is different from the yearbook because usually the yearbook is a two-page spread, the supplement is a one page spread, allowing the yearbook team to cover more spring events. “ The yearbook is different from the spring supplement because it allows us to sort of go rogue and do different designs and mods for the supplement,” Vaughn said. Of course they still have regulations and have to follow the color code, but there is much more creativity and freedom. As a senior and speaking for the class of 2024-2025 this is very important for Vaughn as she is able to leave her mark with the school and in the yearbook.
