French Club Importance by Princess Islam
French Club at Melbourne High, is not just a club, it's a culture respected by many, spread with passion and intelligence. This is especially found as true to Melbourne High’s only French teacher, Madame Courtois. In hopes to carry on the French culture, Madame Courtois came to Melbourne High 24 years ago. Madame Courtois looks forward to meeting new students, and her trips to Paris. This year, marking her 24th year of teaching. Inspired by many trips to Paris, and even living there, and taking after her parents who were both teachers who loved Paris, Madame Courtois became a French teacher.
Every 2 years, the French class partakes in fun field trips to Paris, and other places. All students are welcome, including those that have graduated from school. Madame Courtois says, “I look forward to seeing my students' reactions to exploring Paris, attending bakeries, and the Eiffel Tower.” French Club is about celebrating all French speaking cultures, and learning more about them, students that attend French Club have participated in celebrating all French speaking cultures by helping with party planning. French club is important to Madame Courtois. “It gives an opportunity for students in French class to do more fun things, exploring cultures, and doing things they don't have time for in French class,” said Courtois.
It is important for students to engage in other languages. Courtois said “It should be required, especially if going to a four-year university, in some places it is required starting from elementary school. You want to learn about other cultures, it gives people better job opportunities, and it can shape you into a better person.” After all, it's how she met her husband, Mr. Courtois, in the city of love! Happily married for 26 years. Some advice for her students would be; “Travel, learn another language and travel, go on the trip when you graduate, everyone is welcome, go to Europe and get a train pass. It's important to get outside of the United States and explore," said Courtois .
