Teacher Workshop Helps New Teachers Prepare for the Year by Lily Hock
Teachers could learn new things too! Teacher workshop was an opportunity for new teachers to learn more about Melbourne High School. At the workshop they could plan their lessons, write down what they wanted to accomplish with their students, and interact with others. This experience had helped Mrs. Kimya Louis a lot.
Louis had been teaching for 21 years and started her first year at Melbourne high school this year. She participated in teacher workshop and thought it was a positive experience that gave her the opportunity to talk and bounce ideas off others. “It forced me to sit down and write down what it is I want to accomplish with my students,” Louis said. Her favorite part of teaching has been the hands-on activities with her students which she called her biggest strength and how she kept them engaged in learning. “My teaching style is consistency, kinesthetic, and hands on,” Louis said. She started her first year at Melbourne high school this year and has enjoyed it so far. She said, “I appreciate the diversity and like how there's students from different places and backgrounds.”
New teachers had the opportunity to participate in Teacher Workshop and have a positive start to the school year. They could also learn more about Melbourne high school, talk with others, and plan what they wanted to accomplish with their students. Louis had a good experience and came out of it with an idea of what she really wanted to achieve with her students.
