Dressing as Your Age! by Tyler Ferreira Alves Hill
The week before homecoming is some of the most fun students have as they prepared for homecoming and enjoy their spirit week. At Melbourne High School one of the most fun of these days came during Wednesday as Mel’s High became filled with children and Senior Citizens, like our residential and definitely elderly old man, Dominic Ciano from 12th grade. Each day before Homecoming began on the 11th, was filled with exciting events students could participate in. Earlier that week on the 8th, each grade level was assigned an age group to dress as. Likely the most participated by many of our wonderful seniors, was the 12th grade level which dressed up as Senior Citizens, and Ciano took plenty of pride as he played the part.
Many costumes varied from person to person, but one thing was consistent: Getting old hair and carrying around a prop. Ciano, when he described his costume, said “I was trying to go for an old man that you would usually hang out with and has really weird stories—Cool, but weird stories.” He fit his vibe well as he acted the role around classmates and teachers. Ciano also enjoyed the event, obviously, as not only did he participate but also many students. “I liked seeing how far people would go in to making themselves look like old man, like child—I was mainly looking for senior citizens, cause I knew for a fact people would lean into that a lot.” Ciano said.
Although it may have been followed up by a wackier event in the anything but a backpack day, the dressing as your age day during Spirit Week truly allowed for students to show off some creativity and flare which will likely pop back up in full force, later this month, on Halloween.

Ciano decided to go with dyed hair, that was done by his Aunt, and carried around a cane found at a good price by his Mother. “We had outfit ideas—But not really—I wanted to wear slippers, that was one thing, but I forgot to put them on.” Ciano said.
