Meet Our New Physics Teacher by Ayaana Gupta

This year at Mel High, a new teacher joined the department of science. Mr. Eduardo Gil is the physics teacher in building 8 room 861. He went to college for 6 years in Colombia. He majored in civil engineering and worked in that department in Columbia. While being a civil engineer, Mr. Gil had the opportunity to travel to many places and solve problems. Later on, he moved to the U.S in 1993 and became a teacher. Mr. Gil has been teaching in many places. Miami, Georgia, and Orange County are just a few of them.

For high school, Mr. Gil was in Colombia. Most of his high school life was spent studying. He was focused on his academics and didn’t have much time for extracurriculars. “[His advice to his students now is to] do your best, study in class, and pay attention, but also study at home and outside of the classroom.” He channeled his problem solving mindset into his classroom, and helped students see how physics applied to real world situations. Mr. Gil said, “[he most enjoys] when the children grasp the content”.

Mr Gil is a part time teacher here at Melbourne High School and he taught periods 1-3. His favorite part about teaching is that he had the opportunity to “transmit knowledge”. When asked about his biggest role model, Mr. Gil proudly said “my son, he always behaved properly”, reflecting the same values he encouraged in his students every day. For Mr. Gil, teaching isn't just about equations or experiments, it is about encouraging students to work hard and stay focused on your goals without any distractions.
