The Sound of Your Soul by Ereny Elrayis
For freshman Camila Iglesias, joining the school chorus has already become an important part of her high school experience. She has spent five years performing with the group and says it has taught her valuable lessons in discipline and teamwork. “I have been doing chorus for 5 years,” Iglesias said. “It’s taught me how to work with others and build confidence on stage.”
Through rehearsals and performances, she has learned to focus not just on her own voice but on blending with the group. The chorus has allowed her to grow as a musician while also making lasting friendships. Iglesias has performed in a variety of concerts and school events, often alongside dozens of other students. She recently had a solo performance that was met with applause from the audience. “Being on stage is exciting but also a little nerve-wracking,” she said. “Once the music starts, you just focus on the sound and the people around you.”
The chorus meets regularly after school to rehearse, preparing for concerts in the school theater and special community events. Through these experiences, she has developed not only technical singing skills but also an appreciation for collaboration. For Iglesias, chorus is more than an extracurricular activity—it is a place to connect and grow. She said performing with others has shown her the importance of listening, supporting teammates, and contributing to a larger goal. “Chorus is special because everyone’s voice matters,” she said. “When we all come together, it’s something bigger than just one person.” The program, supported by the school’s music department, continues to provide students with opportunities to develop talent and confidence. “It’s something I’ll always be grateful for,” Iglesias said. “It’s taught me lessons I’ll carry with me beyond high school.”
