Marine Science Fun by Lily Hock
In Gregory Stauffer’s Marine Science class, students learned about the oceans and the creatures within them through fun activities. Stauffer called marine science his background and passion and had been teaching it for five years.
Before teaching, he lived in the Bahamas and enjoyed the experience. “There was constant learning,” he said and has favored an interactive teaching style and incorporated fun, hands-on activities in the class. “I’m mostly looking forward to the compass activity and fish printing, which is called gyotaku,” Stauffer said. When asked his favorite part about teaching, he said, “The students, seeing all the different kids in class learning about marine science.” His passion for marine life and teaching was what made him an impactful teacher. When asked what he hoped his students would take away from the class, he said, “An interest in a marine science related future, knowledge, and hopefully they’ll name a critter after me.”
In Marine Science class, Stauffer taught students about the importance of the oceans and how they affected our lives. He came from a marine science–related background and had a passion for the subject. He provided his students with support and fun, interactive activities.

It’s important for students to learn about the oceans and how they affect our lives. “Marine Science is important because the oceans keep us alive and it’s next to us,” Stauffer said.
