Hola Through the World By Jayda Blanc
Students entered the classroom of Spanish 3 honors with feelings of nervousness and confidence as the final test of the interim finally arrived. After one month and three weeks of studying vocabulary, conjugations, and negative commands, everyone was prepared to put their skills to the test. “ I'm pretty sure I did good on the Spanish Test on Wednesday”, said Kyla King.
Many students shared their thoughts before taking the test. Kyla King said,” Im hoping for an A, but a B will be fine”. It shows the reflecting emotions of confidence and realism among the students. King explained the value of studying the language stating, “Spanish is a good tool to have in life because it shows you how to speak and understand others in the real world”. The course of Spanish 3 Honors is taught by Senora Avila Carvajal, who has been teaching for five years and one of three Spanish teachers at Melbourne High School. Avila Carvajal said she choose the profession of teaching because, “ Teaching Spanish is my passion because its my native language and I love my culture and want students to learn more about it”. Availa Carvajal shows the impact of learning a new language on the students. “ Spanish will impact students lives in a good way because they can relate and talk back to the Spanish speaking classmates they have” said Avila Carvajal. The Wednesday test served as an academic evaluation and an opportunity for students to demonstrate their communication skills through the program.
When the bell rang, a wave of relief emerged in the room. Many students exchanged smiles, and others sighed in relief, but everyone walked away with a sense of hard work. The Spanish test isn't about grades- it was a reflection of how students can use their Spanish skills to the real world and take advantage of being bilingual. Overall, students showed that hard work and confidence pay off by taking your time and one conjugation at a time.
