JV Flag Football Game by Jayda Blanc
Melbourne High School Girls JV Flag Football team competed in a Friday night game against West Shore Jr/Sr High School. This match showed quick drives, defensive stops, and great adjustments on both sides of the ball. Melbourne High Girls Flag Football program is coached by Coach Thompson. The team focused on dedication and field awareness throughout the game.
For freshman, Hailey Bellflower coming to Melbourne High was nothing but a great experience. “It's been amazing so far and getting to know the girls and playing a sport I love” Bellflower said about her overall experience on the Melbourne High Girls JV Flag Football team.Hailey Bellflower pre-game song is “All the Stars by Kendrick Lamar, SZA”, because it gives me energy and confidence to do my best. Junior, Emma Gomez stepped into a bigger challenge and more responsibility after being a sophomore. The experience on the Melbourne High Girls JV Flag Football team, “ Im very excited for the season, more schools have created programs so we get to face more teams and Im confident in our team”, said Gomez. Gomez pre-game song is “What a God by SEU Worship”, because it gives me confidence to play for God and do my best. For Hailey and Emma, being apart of the Melbourne JV Girls Flag Football team isn't about the name- it's about the growth, sisterhood, and setting up for the future.
The opening quarter moved swiftly as both team tested each other defensives. After an early exchange of possession of the ball, the JV squad advanced the ball with a series of short passes and long passes that pushed them into scoring position. After many completed passes in the end zone, the opposing team responded on the next drive, but was unable to score. In the second half, the pace intensified. Defensive players tightened coverage and focused on long gains and short plays. By the final whistle, the game reflected a competitive team with the drive to win all games and mark their efforts with collaboration and consistently.
