Guitar Club Hits The Right Note by Melissa Lima Amaro and Aadhya Patel
Guitar Club was one of the most impactful yet less known clubs in the school. Students of Guitar Club met up every week to play guitars, and gained new experiences. This club gave students a reminder that music was very important. It helped students become more comfortable playing the guitar in front of others and learning new things from each other.
“Just meeting my friends and playing the guitar with them is the best part of the club.” said Justin Gifford, a key member of the club. “We meet every Thursday,” said Gifford. The club was held in Building 8, Room 801, and it was after school on Thursdays. When asked why he thought not a lot of people know about the club, Gifford said, “I would like other people to join, but guitars are expensive, and not everyone wants to play the guitar,” while Mr. Weston Parker, the sponsor of the club said, “I think there is less of a focus on art and music in schools.” Mr. Parker taught English and Theory of Knowledge, and he said what he loved most about Guitar Club was, “I love learning, and as a teacher, I can talk to students and teach them and constantly learn.” When asked if the club had any plans of performing, Mr. Parker said, “The club has some students who want to perform in the talent show, and some played in culture fest.”
Guitar Club shaped students by the power of music and a dedicated teacher, Mr. Parker. The club provided a welcoming space where students could build confidence and express themselves. It also strengthened friendships by bringing together people who shared a passion for music. As the club continued to grow, it had the potential to inspire even more students to pick up a guitar and discover the joy of playing.
Confidence, responsibility and friendship, those are the things that changed people when they joined guitar club. The club is not just about being the guy carrying the guitar, it’s about having enough responsibility to show up to practice, express yourself through melodies and make new friendships that help improve yourself throughout the year. The guitar club only had four members this year, but that didn’t stop them. “It’ll be nice if we had more students, but I understand that their nervous.”, “I hope they know this is a welcoming space”, Mr. Weston Parker said when asked about why he thought there weren’t as many kids in Guitar club.
Every chord learned brings measurable progress and undeniable momentum. Stage presence strengthens through live performances and high-energy jam sessions. Beginners gain a strong foundation, while experienced players sharpen their edge. Serious improvement starts the moment commitment begins. Creativity thrives in a space built for bold expression. “Since I’ve joined the club I have improved my guitar skills and I’ve been in this club for two years. Even though some people might be discouraged because there aren’t that many people in the club Mr. Parker said, “Some kids aren’t inclined to joining because they don’t have time to be dedicated to it, but I have been playing the guitar since I was 17 years old and I love it.”
Guitar club is a safe environment where all students are welcomed whether they know how to play or not. “I think one of the best parts of being in this club is being able to play together,” Justin Crinfrord said. This club gave many students the opportunity of creativity and they welcomed everyone that wanted to join. “Things in this club have helped me personally by making me more playing the guitar with other people,” Crinfrord Said. The guitar club isn’t just a place for students to play and practices, it’s a place where students can develop confidence and learn new thing.
